Wiz Khalifa Announces Release Date for “O.N.I.F.C.”

Wiz has announced that his sophomore LP O.N.I.F.C. will be released this summer on August 28th and the lead single will be called Work Hard and will be premiered on the radio Monday, April 23rd.  The new single will be produced by Stargate (Black & Yellow, Roll Up) and Benny Blanco (production credits on 12 #1 hits).  Keep an eye out for that track and get ready for ONIFC August 28th!  I wouldn’t be surprised to see this date pushed back, however.  We have nothing to back this up, it’s just a hunch considering top rappers or their label almost ALWAYS push back their dates.

New Mixtape: Wiz Khalifa – Taylor Allderdice

Wiz Khalifa drops his first mixtape in over a year titled the same as his hometown Pittsburgh high school, Taylor Allderdice.  This has been quite an anticipated project for awhile.  Wiz released his first major label record last year titled Rolling Papers and collaborated with Snoop Dogg on the Mac & Devin Go To High School soundtrack. Wiz has yet to release a free mixtape for the streets since February 2011, when he dropped Cabin Fever in preparation for his debut album.  Wiz has also recently lamented on his album Rolling Papers in an open letter to his fans via his tumblr account and promised that this is the most excited he has been for a mixtape (Taylor Allderdice) and album (O.N.I.F.C.) in a long time.

Wiz Khalifa Releases Open Letter to Fans to Address Issues

A couple days ago, Wiz Khalifa took to his Tumblr page to release an open letter to his fans, or as he calls them, his Taylors.  Wiz took the time to thank everyone who has supported him and helped him get to where he is today.  He recalls times when he was unheard of to even avid hip hop fans:

“I remember getting 500 dollars for a show to fly out and see kids who had no idea what a wiz khalifa was, and you crazy muh fuggas showed up. Had a great time, and spread the word. Its ya’lls spirit who revived the rap game and brought back the true art to this shit. Your demand for live shows made it possible for a lot of rappers to come from nothing and feed their families. Promoters too, more kids are managers, dj’s videographers. Shit everyones eating. Thanx to you Taylors!!!!”

Wiz moved on to address some things that have been being said about him around the internet and the hip hop community.  He was sure to reiterate the fact that he is always about spreading positivity and supporting fellow artists and anyone else.  He told the world in a matter of words to ignore haters and always do what makes you happy.  Wiz even took time to say that his current selection of style has taken heat; and he said that he is simply being himself and wearing what he likes.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, Wiz discussed his music.  Wiz admits that he had moved away or moved on from the sound that launched his career on his Kush & OJ mixtape.  He realized now that sound defined him as an artist and it was a mistake to cater to more mainstream sounds for his major label debut Rolling Papers.  He admits that it did great numbers-wise, but wished creatively he could have done more and promises that his future releases that are coming soon will be more creatively inspiring:

“The album did great numbers, but creatively wasn’t my best work. No regrets though. We live and we learn. So for my fans sake and own personal enjoyment,  Ive gone further into the world we’ve created and elaborated on our genre with the mixtape Taylor Allderdice and of course my sophomore album ONIFC.”

It seems that Wiz has most certainly heard the whispers that have been swirling the internet and the rest of the hip-hop world.  This has always been what Khalifa has been about.  Keeping in touch with his fans whether it be through social media, tours, or other means.  Whatever the case, Wiz seems more determined than ever to deliver great and original music for his fans.  Keep a look out for his upcoming mixtape (Taylor Allderdice) and sophomore album (O.N.I.F.C.).
