StevieBeats sat down with the up and coming rapper to discuss influences, goals and his debut solo project “The Audition.”  Check out the interview below!

StevieBeats: When did you first start making music?

Deuce: I first started making music seriously in 2004. It started as a hobby to pass the time in math class but then I started letting people listen to my rhymes at school and they really enjoyed it. At that point I figured why not make music professionally. Making music that everyone can enjoy is the best feeling!

StevieBeats: Who are your influences?

Deuce: Jay-Z, Eminem, and 50 Cent. All of these artists came from similar backgrounds as myself, growing up in an urban city. They do a great job expressing themselves through their music, which is always my goal when writing a song.

StevieBeats: When it comes to music, what do you bring to the table?

Deuce: Something new! I work really hard to make my music stand out. I think that it is very important to not be repetitive and always try to outdo your previous efforts. So expect something new and fresh whenever you listen to a Deuce track.

StevieBeats: How did you get your name?

Deuce: My name was easy to come up with. I’m a real simple guy so I knew my name wasn’t gonna be anything crazy. I would rap for people and was often compared to other artists that had already been signed. So I saw myself as a second coming to the game, so DEUCE fit perfectly.

StevieBeats: If you were to describe “Deuce” in 5 words what would they be?

Deuce: Determined, Creative, Original, Passionate, and Grateful

StevieBeats: What do you hope to accomplish as an artist?

Deuce: My overall goal as an artist is to show the world that not all rappers are uneducated thugs, pimps, felons, drug dealers etc. As an artist, I hope to be recognized nationally and looked at how an author or poet would be viewed. When it’s all said and done, I want to be the next big rapper out of the Bronx since fat Joe.

StevieBeats: You just dropped your first solo project, “The Audition” July 30th, what can people expect?

Deuce: Everyone can expect a high level of lyricism. I put a lot thought into my lyrics so there will be a couple songs were you might have to rewind a certain part because of my metaphoric style. I also worked with a lot of young and upcoming producers so beats are going to be real fresh! I had a lot fun making this CD and I hope the listeners enjoy!

StevieBeats: What’s the meaning behind the title?

Deuce: This is my first solo release and it’s also the first time a lot of people will hear me rap, now that I live in NYC. “The Audition” sums everything up perfectly.

StevieBeats: Are you with a label?

Deuce: SMG (Sinista Music Group)

StevieBeats: Lastly, is there anyone you would like to shout out?

Deuce: I’d like to shout out everyone at my label (SMG), this project wouldn’t have been possible without them. Also Jaemore, Drestar, R.O.C, Mischief, Barz, Mil, Dru York, Amaher, and all the producers I worked with. Most importantly, all the fans and people that have supported me up to this point!
